When Cybercrimes Lead To Real World Consequences

We talk a lot about cyber crime in this newsletter, but most of the time, the impact is related to financial damage. This is for a variety of reasons, but the primary motivation behind most cyber attacks is the money that can be made. In pursuit of that money, many bad actors have decided to cast the widest net possible-- simply trying to make contact with anyone that they can. Others have decided to deliberately target specific businesses and industries that they think that they can most effectively manipulate. As it turns out, the latter has been the most profitable for many, as well as the most damaging for their victims.

Experts have been warning about the serious, material risk to human life that could come as a result of a cyberattack. With attackers targeting critical services such as electric companies and health care institutions with ransomware attacks, the risk became an inevitability, and that inevitability has now come to pass. With cyberattacks becoming more and more frequent, it is now more important than ever for all businesses to have a disaster recovery plan in place, and to have access to resources to help them through a major security event.
