The Age of Misinformation

As Abraham Lincoln once said, "don't trust everything you read on the internet." All jokes aside, our nation is moving closer and closer to the 2020 presidential election and the need for people to have access to factual and unbiased information is growing by the day. With many people forgoing traditional media outlets and obtaining their news through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, one of the great problems of our information age has been revealed: how do we ensure that blatant misinformation is removed while maintaining the integrity of the democratic process?

Regardless of your political affiliation, the misinformation campaigns that are being carried out by malicious actors are having a negative impact that echoes out to the furthest reaches of the public discourse, and will continue to do so until we find a way to effectively regulate social media platforms and the role they play in modern politics.
