Is Alexa Listening to You?

The Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple's Siri are all fun and semi-useful products that add some degree of convenience to your life. While they certainly aren't capable of all of the things that you might want from the science fiction smart home computer, they can, for example, give you an answer to a question that you may not want to look up right that second. They can play music, control other internet connected devices such as a smart thermostat or a Ring doorbell, and they can tell you a joke if you ask them to. They also can mistake a wide variety of phrases as their "wake phrase", subsequently tuning into and recording conversations that you may not have intended for them to.

We've probably all been concerned at one point or another about the possibility of our digital assistants listening in on us, but this article from Forbes goes into detail about how often this is actually happening, up to 19 times per day.
