Got An Email From Netflix or PayPal? It’s Probably Fake.

Phishing artists are abusing our trust in large brands to trick us into visiting bogus websites and sharing credentials. What's new?

Email security company Vade Secure has recently released a report that documents the 3 most common brands that cyber crooks spoof when trying to bait users into giving up their passwords. According to the report, Microsoft, PayPal, and Netflix are the most commonly spoofed, with companies such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Facebook following closely behind.

Phishing attacks depend on their victims being inattentive, distracted or otherwise unaware that the seemingly legitimate link they are about to click is malicious. They also make use of different tactics, such as domain-name spoofing (making their email appear as if it is coming from a different source), emails that mimic certain brands or companies, and they also like to instill a sense of urgency so that you will act without thinking.

This kind of attack is one of the most common in today's cyber threat landscape. It's imperative that your organization is educated on how to best identify and defend against these threats to prevent financial losses and damage to productivity and the reputation of your business.
