Leave Your Privacy At The Door

Yet another reminder that free apps aren't really free.

 

A handful of popular iPhone apps were discovered to have embedded code that collected your location data, and in some cases, data related to your WiFi network and device for the purpose of selling it to marketing companies. Apps such as ASKfm, NOAA Weather Radar, PhotoBucket, Tapatalk, and others all at one point contained this code, and made little to no effort to directly inform users of this data collection.

 

These things are important to consider when making use of any free service or software. How is this company going to make money? How do they justify giving you this seemingly incredible software for free? And, is the data you are inevitably going to share with them worth using the app?
